Deciding you’re ready for a life coach is a big moment. You know it’s time to have support as you navigate transitional periods. Everybody needs a support system. Life would be nearly impossible to navigate entirely on your own, and there is no shame in admitting you could use guidance during some of the more nuanced times of your life. If you are considering a life coach, it means you are ready to conquer the significant changes in your professional and personal life.

Choosing the best coach for you requires time and consideration. It is a significant investment of your time and money, and you want to see solutions that are catered to your needs. This is not a decision to make lightly and is certainly not a decision to make strictly based on the cost. You are not investing in your coach, you are investing in yourself.

There are a lot of very qualified and experienced coaches out there. Quantity will never be an issue in selecting your coach, but it is not as simple as drawing a name from a hat. You need to make sure that your life coach is a good fit for you and you for them. There are certain things to consider when selecting the right coach for you. Let’s talk about those.

What to Consider When Finding Your Life Coach

Before you start your search, it is important to ask yourself some questions. Some of the things to factor into your decision are:

What type of coach are you looking for?

Do you need support with a career change? Are you struggling with your mindset and mental health? Are you unsure if the life you’re living is taking a toll on your body? Are you looking to start a business? Do you need support establishing boundaries with loved ones?

All of these are important questions to have answers to before you begin your search for a life coach. Different coaches are experienced in different areas, and if you choose a random coach based on location and budget, you might not get any of the results you’re looking for.

Is the coach qualified to meet your needs?

Does the life coach have the appropriate accreditations? If they’re focused on mental health and boundaries, do they have certificates, degrees, and education to understand the intricacies of our brains and psychology?

If you’re looking for a life coach to support your new business venture, do they have any experience starting, running, and scaling a business besides their own? These are all important things to find answers to before reaching out.

Does the life coach have good reviews?

Reviews are pivotal social proof to ensure the life coach does what they say. We can all have a swanky website or a packed Instagram account, but without the social proof from testimonials, it can all easily be a sham.

Check Google Reviews, reviews on their website, Yelp, LifeCoachHub, or Facebook to find the proof you need.

What does their coaching plan include?

Most life coaches will map out how they tackle the first 30, 60, or 90 days somewhere on their website or social platforms. Look at how they handle their assessment process, and read some of their blogs to determine if their style aligns with your personality and your desired outcomes

Is their contract clear and easy to understand? Do they include their payment policy, coaching agreement, and cancellation policy?

This one might seem less relevant, but when you’re working closely with a life coach who no doubt will become your confidant and close acquaintance for the next several months and years, you want to ensure all the conversations about money are crystal clear and upfront. This will make the process smoother and more comfortable for everyone.

Time to Find the Life Coach For You

There are a lot of factors to take into consideration when looking for a life coach, but the most important thing is to trust your instinct. Make sure you feel a good rapport with the coach because an excellent client-coach relationship is a key to success. Nobody knows you as well as you do. So, trust your gut.

If you are in doubt, you need to stop and look hard at your situation and your needs. It is crucial to ensure that a life coach is a right person for you. Depending on your situation, you might find yourself better suited to a therapist or another professional. If you have decided, make sure you take your time. Do not rush into it, and do your research to find the perfect coach to fulfill your needs. This might be the only thing standing between you and the adrenalized life you have always dreamed of.
